Enhancing Light

Enhancing Light

In this episode of “The Complete Picture,” Julieanne Kost demonstrates enhancing light in Adobe Lightroom’s Develop module to enhance your photographs using color and tonality to change the mood and atmosphere of an image.

We all know that the goal is to capture the best photograph in camera, not enhancing light using post processing tricks, but when you shooting in the field you can’t always control the lighting.  It is not simply what happens when we aren’t at the right place at the right time of day either.  As mirrorless cameras and DSLR’s both advance towards higher and higher possibilities in ISO, the need for fill flash has diminished.  Newer adjustment tricks are being built into image adjustment software all the time to take advantage of this trend.

Cameras like my A7S continually produce exceptional images in what would have been considered impossible photographic conditions just a couple of years ago.  The science behind this is still driving even better results, so I don’t expect this phenomena to go away.  What we do need is tips like this one from Julieanne to help us adapt to the new high ISO reality.

In this training video, Julieanne Kost will show you how to make subtle changes to increase the photograph’s emotional impact by adjusting the image.  This is the only advantage to shooting RAW, you have more flexibility of choices to finish up your final image in post.
